** Every year, the Australian Government makes limited funding available to fully accredited development agencies for targeted overseas programs under the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP). As an accredited agency, we apply for government funding and can receive an allocation. An essential requirement is that we must raise $1 for every $10 allocated until we meet the match amount.

“When she was born Lovai seemed like a healthy baby,” Gisu, Lovai’s mother says.  But Gisu kept noticing abnormalities after she turned one.

“She started to lose some weight and look pale…Then she had a big sick, a big, high fever one day.”

The loud murmur they heard through the stethoscope was nothing short of a death sentence.

Lovai’s mother was told her little girl had a Ventricular Septal Defect (or VSD), often known as ‘a hole in the heart’. Unfortunately, this name doesn’t convey the seriousness of the condition. What Lovai’s mother had just found out was essentially this – your daughter will get sick often, will not gain weight and will often be too exhausted to move. And then, she will die.

Without treatment children like Lovai have short, limited and often painful lives. And, when disasters like COVID-19 hit, they some of the most at risk of developing serious, sometimes deadly, complications. That’s why the work your support enables is so critically important, today more than ever.
