One of the big challenges in working an environment so far from home, with gear that’s come from various sources, not to mention humidity and power outages, is keeping everything in theatre, ICU and the ward in a functional state. Jono and Shirley are good, but rebuilding this circuit board from a defibrillator is beyond even their skills. Flames and smoke coming out of the machine was a pretty bad sign! As is often required on Open Heart International trips, a work around was found, with a different (external) defibrillator found and a plan formed for how it could be used in theatre. A spare part for this equipment (which was brought with us from Australia) is hopefully on the way!
