Welcome back Home » Tales from the field » Welcome back Posted on 19 February, 2018 It’s great to be back in Myanmar with Open Heart International, our 29th visit to Myanmar. When Open Heart International first visited in 2003, the project was contained within one hospital. Now 15 years later, OHI is actively involved in four hospitals in Yangon, and 1 in Mandalay. Some team members arrived one day early to enjoy the sights, and sounds of Yangon and a tour of the city. It was an early start with a sunrise over the world-renowned Shwedagon Pagoda, before river cruises and local train rides. As the final team members arrived, it was time to get down to business. This year there are three cardiothoracic surgical teams in different hospitals, plus four interventional cardiology (cath lab) teams. On top of the surgical teams we have team members working in the Intensive Care Units, and also in the cardiology clinics. Everyone is looking forward to a great week, and most importantly teaching our Burmese colleagues as much as possible. Tags: Myanmar,
