Patients are coming from far and wide Home » Tales from the field » Patients are coming from far and wide Posted on 16 March, 2017 Jakaya Kiwete Cardiac Institute is part of the Muhumbili National Hospital, located in the Upanga neighbourhood of Dar es Salaam and adjacent to the Muhumbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. It is the biggest national referral hospital, established to treat patients referred from regional hospitals and private hospitals across the country. So far this month, there have been 1423 visitors. This large complex contains: Medical services (Internal medicine, Paediatric & Child health, Emergence medicine department, Outpatient department, Rehabilitative medicine and Psychiatry), Surgical services (Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology ENT, Anaesthesia, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dental), Clinical support services (Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology) and Nurses services. Patients we have received have therefore come from far and wide to access treatments that may not be available in their hometowns. Among these, we have many parents who have travelled a long way with their children and babiesfrom all around the country. So far they have all comeby bus, sometimes travelling forup to 30 hours!
