Thursday consisted of the final post-op rounds to check on patients operated the day previous. All were doing well, which was great news for the surgical team. The ongoing patient care will now be the responsibility of the local doctors and opthalmologists that work in the area. It is satisfying to be not be handing over any complications, and patients that have recovered well.

All up the team was able to restore the sight to 153 people. Five seriously affected patients received surgery on both eyes, taking the total number of operations to 158 in eight operating days. An amazing effort by the Australian team, as well as the Filipino team who have worked so diligently.

Sadly though all good things must come to an end. Thursday night was a chance to say farewell to new and old friends. In all of our projects, the local people we work with are what makes for great memories. We have really enjoyed working with the team at Adventist Hospital Santiago City (AHSC) again this year. They are a marvellous group of mission minded people and we cannot say thank you enough for a memorable visit.

We look forward to seeing you again in 2015!
