Mother’s Day with a difference Home » Tales from the field » Mother’s Day with a difference Posted on 13 June, 2013 This post is by Melanie Windus, Project Coordinator – Fiji How did you spend Mother’s Day this year? Wherever you are in the world, we hope you were spoilt, and we know you deserve it! Here in Fiji, there was no time for enjoying breakfast in bed, with lots of work to be done! Sunday was unpacking day, so for all the mothers on the team (and everyone else), it was time to get cracking on opening up the freight. Before operating can start the hundreds of boxes need to be arranged, sorted, and prepared. The ICU and the Operating Theatre need to also be set up. Luckily, with plenty of hands and experience over the years, we have learnt how it can be done quickly and efficiently. In under 4 hours, we are ready for our first patient for 2013, and of course its a Mum! Atelaite itook early retirement because of her health. She was excited and nervous about her Mothers day present this year – surgery! The picture below was taken shortly before surgery, her husband by her side and being supported by our ward team! Happy Mothers Day from Suva! Tags: Fiji,
