First Patient Through to ICU – 1 ASD Repaired Home » Tales from the field » First Patient Through to ICU – 1 ASD Repaired Posted on 14 May, 2013 This post is by Steve Woods, Rwanda Team Blogger. Four year old Muhamudu was the first cardiac surgical case selected, and has just come through to ICU and is doing well. The second case (for those in the know it is a Sub AS, AS and supravalvar AS repair!) is already underway in theatre. King Faisal Hospital (KFH) staff work closely with the Open Heart International team, observing and learning. This is a big part of the goal of OHI. Not to just arrive, perform surgery, get the patients out to the ward and disappear into the sunset, but to involve as many staff across the hospital in the excellent learning opportunity that OHI provides.
