On the road to Independence Home » Tales from the field » On the road to Independence Posted on 10 November, 2015 We have recently returned from the busy streets of Siem Reap, Cambodia, after a one week project teaching cardiac surgery to the local Cambodian team. This was our 7th project after resuming contact in 2012 to teach the more complex open heart surgery. I am pleased to report that the goals of the project are on track with the local surgeon outperforming our expectations. The Cambodian team are now capable of commencing an independent program with the simpler cases, allowing the international teams to operate and teach the more complicated cases. I am so proud of our Cambodian friends who are an inspiration with their eagerness to learn and succeed. Congratulations! I am equally proud of the 28 volunteers who gave up their holidays, and financially contributed to the project, to share their skills with the local team. I have had very positive feedback from many sources at Angkor Hospital for Children regarding their appreciation and gratitude. Thank you team for your amazing commitment to OHI and Angkor Hospital for Children. Here are some great memories: Tags: Cambodia,
