5000th Patient – Nishant

Open Heart International (OHI) are excited to announce that we have reached our 5000th patient!!!! What an amazing achievement by all our volunteers! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the work of OHI.

Meet 2 year old, Nishant who was our special 5000th patient. He is an only child to Harimaya Thapa who lives in a village called Kailali in Nepal. Nishant has a contracture to his right knee, ankle and foot which he received due to falling into a fire when he was just 6 months old.

His mother travelled for three days to get him to the Scheer Memorial Hospital for screening. Nishant recieved his life changing surgery on Friday preformed by Dr Pennington. We are happy to report he is recovering very well!

It was a very special moment for the OHI Team here in Nepal when Nishant walked for the first time in his life. With the help of Dr David Pennington and team Physio Nat, Nishant took his first steps and was soon tearing up and down the hall way laughing and shouting. A very proud moment for everyone!
