A summary of another very successful year for the Burns team 2017.

The team have changed the lives of 47 very thankful Nepali patients. They will all go home in one weeks time with restored function and a better outlook for their future. Most of our patients this year have come form the Far Western Region of Nepal, this is the most unreached Region as far as Health Care. We have all heard their stories of how they were injured, most by open wood fires, and most at a young age. We have laughed, cried and held our patients, given pain relief, dressed wounds, sat with, talked with, spent time with every single patient. Saying our goodbyes were sad especially Ramsanker our patient who had to have his arm ambulated because he fell into a fire one year ago, he waved goodbye to us with tears in his eyes saying thank you from the bottom of his heart to Dr Cameron Scott and all the Doctors and Nurses who so lovingly cared for him.

We have also transferred skills to the Local Nepali Doctors, theatre staff, nursing staff and nursing students many times over with inservice and bed side skill transfer. But each time I come away from our Sister Hospital (Scheer Memorial) always feeling like they have taught me so much more then what we gave, but I suppose that is what humility is, Giving of yourself to help others….Thank you Open Heart international for another opportunity to help.
